The Short:
J Trey on stage is an R&B/Hip Hop/Jam Band. Consisting of 2 vocalists, 1 MC/DJ, and a 4 piece backing band, they've gained a reputation for high energy, memorable live shows. In the studio, J Trey is an contemporary R&B/Hip Hop group utilizing production from around the globe. The group has collaborated by not so well-known producers from France, Norway, and the UK, as well as many others closer to home. The group has been around making their own kind of noise in the Midwest since 1999-2000. They have 2 full length albums under their belt, released on a couple of West Coast based Indie labels. Their junior release, entitled Blue i Soul, is a collection of some of their best older songs that have been completely remixed as well as a full selection of brand new material. It is set for a Fall release on their own label, Minor League Music.

J Trey is a contemporary R&B/Hip Hop group hailing from in and around the state of Iowa. You're probably right if you don't consider Iowa to be the mecca of urban music, but that, in a way, is what makes them unique. J Trey hovers somewhere between pop and underground, between smooth, polished R&B and rough around the edges Hip Hop. Influences run the gamut from Hip-Hop artists like DJ Quik and AZ to R&B groups Silk and Hi-Five, all the way to Bonnie Rait, Emmylou Harris, and soulful rock bands like Sonia Dadda. The most common comparison musically is "...the City High thing turned upside down..." - Matt Jost, RapReviews.Com. J Trey consists of mc/songwriter JT, singers Jasmine and JB, along with their 4 piece band that make their live shows memorable. The group has been around since 1999-2000 making their own kind of noise throughout the Midwest. J Trey originally came together in Cedar Falls, IA, a college town, and since have lived in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Davenport. Early on, the trio managed to sign a management deal with a couple of big time industry types from NY & LA and that spawned interest from several major labels. A big label deal never came to be however and they have remained an indepenedent group. Having been on a few Indie West Coast based labels for their first 2 releases, J Trey is now under their own label, called Minor League Music out of Des Moines. Their third album ,entitled "Blue I Soul" is due out soon and will be accompanied by regional touring with their band. Stay tuned. - J
