J Trey is a contemporary R&B/Hip Hop group hailing from in and around the state of Iowa. You're probably right if you don't consider Iowa to be the mecca of urban music, but that, in a way, is what makes them unique. J Trey hovers somewhere between pop and underground, between smooth R&B and rough around the edges Hip Hop. The group consists of rapper/songwriter JT, and singers Jasmine and JB. They have been around since 1999-2000 making their own kind of noise throughout the Midwest. The group originally came together in Cedar Falls, IA, a college town, and since have lived in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Davenport. Early on, the trio managed to sign a management deal with a couple of big time industry types from NY & LA and that spawned interest from several major labels. It never panned out however and they have remained an indepenedent group. Having been on a few Indie West Coast based labels for their first 2 releases, J Trey is now under their own label, called Minor League Music out of Des Moines. Their third album ,entitled "Blue I Soul" is due out summer 2010 and will be accompanied by a third mini-tour of the Midwest. - J
