Blue I Soul 1 Sheet |
BIO
The Short: On Stage J Trey is an R&B/Hip Hop/Jam Band in the style of...hmmm, no one really. Live shows consist of a 4 piece backing band, 2 vocalists, and 1 MC/DJ. J Trey hails from in and around the state of Iowa, floating around Iowa City, Cedar Falls, Des Moines, and Davenport. You're probably right if you don't consider Iowa to be the mecca of urban music, but that, in a way, is what makes them unique. This music hovers somewhere between pop and underground, between smooth, polished R&B and rough around the edges Hip Hop. Influences run the gamut from Hip-Hop artists like DJ Quik and AZ to R&B groups Silk and Hi-Five, all the way to Bonnie Rait, Emmylou Harris, and soulful rock bands like Sonia Dada. The group has been around since 1999-2000 making their own kind of noise throughout the Midwest. Early on, the vocal trio managed to sign a management deal with a couple of big time industry types from NY & LA and that spawned interest from several major labels. A big label deal never came to be however and they have remained an independent act. Having been on a few Indie West Coast based labels for their first 2 releases, J Trey is now under their own label, called Minor League Music out of Des Moines in collaboration with Throne Muzik out of Portland, OR. Their critically acclaimed 3rd album "Blue I Soul" hit the shelves Q1 2011 and the band is currently out touring in support. Everything you need to know about the new album is here. - Peace |
